THE VILLAGE |

|
Between sky and water, located in a wild and grandiose nature, the village of Aiguines protects like a motionless spotter the Grand Canyon du Verdon; a wild torrent that dug its bed throught the rocks on 300m depth, endlessly dominating the appeased waters of the Lake de Sainte-Croix, a jewel of nature, of sapphire and emerald colours. The castle, a private mansion, was restored in 1606 by Balthazar de Gauthier. It is likely that in the years 1720 and then 1750, the castle and it's outbuildings were transformed and the gardens created. It was bought in 1989 and restored. The Chapel Saint Pierre dominates the village with a location table that offers a unique panorama on the lake de Sainte Croix and the plateau of Valensole. It was famous at the time for its wood turnery. The Tourism Office presents a collection of tools, manufactured objects and studded balls, testimonies of the production of Aiguines in the 19th and 20th centuries. Aiguines offers to its visitors an ideal place to laze around and to practise stunning hikes in the Gorges du Verdon. You can also find climbing spots adapted to all levels, paraglading, hand-gliding, sailing, wind-surfing, canoeing are also possible activities. The village also has many restaurants, hotels, campsites, inns, bars, groceries, craftsmen and souvenir shops.
